We are down to the Elite Eight in the Your Pie Greek Madness competition. Here is a description of which cause(s) each organization is competing for. You can help out by finding a cause you would like to support and mentioning the name of the group representing them at the register. Your Pie will make a donation to the winning teams philanthropy fund of up to $1500.

Zeta Tau Alpha
ZTA supports Breast Cancer Education and Awareness. One in eight women will be affected by breast cancer at some point in their lifetime. We focus to encompass not only the Susan G. Komen Foundation which we donate monetarily to, but also other educational means dedicated to fighting breast cancer through education, awareness, and promoting breast health.
Zeta’s national philanthropy of Breast Cancer Education and Awareness is extremely important to the chapter. Every year, the chapter hosts the Diamond Challenge Softball Tournament to raise money for the cure. The Gamma Pi chapter raised more than $50,000 in 2010 to benefit women nationwide through programs such as Race for the Cure and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The ZTA Foundation claims “Think Pink!” as a registered trademark to serve as the umbrella for all of our breast cancer education and awareness projects. Alpha Chi Omega
AXO proudly supports our national philanthropy, the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation, which helps combat domestic abuse and violence throughout the nation as well as providing a formal channel to multiply the impact and collective generosity of our chapter.

In addition to endowed grants and scholarships provided through the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation, educational programs also exist to encourage risk management education, create a chapter consultant program and provide members with a variety of programming at our biennial conventions.

Locally, we maintain the effort by pledging over 500 hours to the domestic violence shelter in Athens. We also raised money to build a playground for the domestic violence shelter in Athens and hold an annual cell phone drive to benefit the women as well.

During the Fall, Alpha Chi holds a philanthropy event that directly benefits Domestic Violence Awareness. In years past, the sorority has organized a Flag Football tournament at the intermural fields, gaining support from fraternities, sororities and other UGA students alike. The money raised directly benefits the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation.

Alpha Omicron Pi
Alpha Omicron Pi’s International Philanthropy is Arthritis and Juvenile Arthritis Research. Collegiate chapters and Alumnae Chapters have all contributed tremendous amounts of money to the AOII Foundation that goes towards grants to fund research to help find a cure for a disease that affects millions of people around world. Nearly 1 in 3 people suffer from Arthritis, and is currently the number 1 cause of disability in the United States.
The Lambda Sigma Chapter hosts two events every year to raise money for the AOII Foundation. Our first one is Italian Night hosted by our new member class every fall where the girls serve spaghetti to the new members of the fraternities at UGA. It is an event that not only raises money for a great cause, but is a favorite event amongst the new members because it is a great opportunity for them to get to know each other better! Our Strike Out Arthritis event is held every Spring and is a 5K race called Run for the Roses. This year it was held at a local park with music, food, and great prizes. This year we had 480 attendees and raised over $12,795 from this event! Our members also make it a priority to be involved and participate in other philanthropies around campus such as UGAmiracle, Relay For Life, UGA HEROS, and UGA Special Olympics to name a few.

Pi Beta Phi
Pi Phi supports their Pi Beta Phi Foundation. From its inception, the Foundation’s aim has been clear — to empower this group with the funding needed to pursue its mission and purpose. Targeting education, leadership and philanthropy, the Foundation enriches lives and supports both Pi Phis and the community at large.

The Foundation funds a broad range of philanthropic efforts benefiting both the Fraternity and the community, including scholarships, emergency relief grants, leadership development programs and literacy initiatives. 20 years after it was founded, the Foundation continues to provide opportunities for Pi Phis to grow in the spirit of sisterhood and friendship.
Pi Phi’s at UGA take part in a number of philanthropy programs. Over the fraternity’s history, philanthropies have included education, literacy, and the preservation of regional arts and crafts.

Kappa Delta
Kappa Delta supports four philanthropic organizations: Prevent Child Abuse America, National Girl Scouts, Orthopaedic Surgeons awards, and the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty.
KD is very involved in supporting their local philanthropy, the Athens Council of Prevent Child Abuse. The Sigma Phi Chapter of Kappa Delta hosts a fishing tournament each spring called Bass Classic. All proceeds benefit Prevent Child Abuse Athens and Prevent Child Abuse America . We kick off “Shamrock Week” with a breakfast catered by Waffle House with unlimited waffles, grits, hashbrowns, bacon and other breakfast foods.
In 2006, Kappa Delta joined the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty to help raise self-esteem in girls and women. The campaign is a global effort intended to serve as a starting point for societal change and act as a catalyst for widening the definition and discussion of beauty. Girls and women of all ages benefit from the campaign as we explore what it is to be beautiful.
The Dove Campaign for Real Beauty has included controversial ads of real women with real curves in their underwear, activity booklets, a comprehensive website and more. Kappa Delta is proud to join forces with Dove to make a difference in the lives of women and girls across the country. Sigma Phi aims to include Girl Scouts in Dove Campaign for Real Beauty events since this is such an important message to convey to young girls.
In 1947, the sorority established the the Kappa Delta Orthopaedic Research Awards. Starting with a $1,000 contribution in 1950, Kappa Delta now presents three $20,000 awards annually to leading orthopaedic researchers, for a total of over $1.1 million since the partnership began.
Often referred to as the Nobel Prize of orthopaedic research, the Kappa Delta Orthopaedic Research Awards have gone to researchers who have made key discoveries pertaining to bone grafting, treatment of polio, surgical correction of scoliosis, knee replacement, prevention and treatment of osteoporosis, arthorscopic surgery–in short, most of the leading orthopaedic advancements of the past 60 years.
KD’s at UGA are very involved with local girl scout chapters and hold several events that incorporate the girls throughout the year.
